Folklore has it that Kettlebell, or in Russian “GIRYA,” were used as counterweights at Russian markets. At the end of the day farmers would swing, toss, and juggle these weights for fun and exercise. It became part of the culture as a way to stay fit and, in 1948, Russians began the Girevoy sport.
